Quotations from The Thing

The Thing is a science-fiction mystery horror film about an alien that takes the shape of humans in order to kill the people around it. The film follows a group of scientists working in the Antarctic as they come in contact with the alien and subsiquently try to figure out what is happening to everyone. At first, they assume one of their own people are doing the killings, then they realize that whoever it was or is doing the killing isn't from around there. Directed by John Carpenter. Starring Kurt Russell, Wilford Brimley, and Keith David. This is a remake of the 151 film "The Thing from Another World" but also an adaption of the novella "Who Goes There?" by John W. Campbell, Jr.

The Thing is often seen as one of the best horror films ever created. Nonetheless, when the movie was first released it received only mixed reviews and went on to only moderate success at the box office. Carpenter considers this as part of his own "Apocalypse Trilogy" where each of the three films give a scenerio where humans will be destroyed. Read below for some quotes from the movie The Thing.

Childs: You're gonna have to sleep sometime, MacReady.
MacReady: I'm a real light sleeper, Childs.
Garry: The generator's gone.
MacReady: Any way we can we fix it?
Garry: It's "gone", MacReady.
Clark: I dunno what the hell's in there, but it's weird and pissed off, whatever it is.
Nauls: Maybe we're at war with Norway?
MacReady: Somebody in this camp ain't what he appears to be. Right now that may be one or two of us. By spring, it could be all of us.
Childs: So, how do we know who's human? If I was an imitation, a perfect imitation, how would you know it was really me?
MacReady: I know I'm human. And if you were all these things, then you'd just attack me right now, so some of you are still human. This thing doesn't want to show itself, it wants to hide inside an imitation. It'll fight if it has to, but it's vulnerable out in the open. If it takes us over, then it has no more enemies, nobody left to kill it. And then it's won.
Garry: You reach anybody, yet?
Windows: Reach anybody? We're a thousand miles from nowhere, man. And it's gonna get a hell of a lot worse before it gets any better!
MacReady: First goddamn week of winter.
Dr. Copper: [viewing the ruined Norwegian camp] My God, what the hell happened here?
MacReady: C'mon, Doc.
Childs: I just cannot believe any of this voodoo bullshit!
