The Exorcist is a horror drama film about a twelve-year-old girl who is demonically possessed by a mysterious being, so her mother, a film actress, seeks out help from two priests who attempt to save her daughter. The film begins by showing the two priests problems with their own lives and the beginning of the girl's struggle with her demon. The girl is first suspected of having a lesion on her temporal lobe, but X-rays show that nothing is wrong. The girl is then sent to a psychiatrist, but still nothing changes and she is growing more violent. After paranormal events occur and all medical explanations have been exhausted, the mother seeks out to have an exorcism on her daughter. Directed by William Friedkin. The Exorcist received only mixed reviews upon its release, but it saw enormous success at the box office and at the Academy Awards.
