To Put a Pen on Paper
It is hard to put a pen on paper,
Like a violent, vicious
Rapier;
It is hard to put a pen on paper.
It is hard to be full, then starved.
It is hard to be dull, then carved.
Unsatisfied you are
When wounds heal without flaking.
Violent you are
When the pen clots
And coagulates.
Violent you are.
If tearing the paper is like a laceration
In the wholesome universe,
Then what is crumpling the paper
And throwing it away --
And not even succeeding at that?
When it bounces out
And falls flat --
Without a satisfying splat?
