Through the looking glass
I know of a girl,
I know all her secrets.
The act she upholds,
Her struggle to keep it.
I know she cries every night,
Not knowing what to do.
Her biggest fear has come to light:
Her facade is shining through.
She destests the conformity,
Of society's endless rules.
She finally breaks down,
Her tears glisten like jewels.
She fears the rejection,
Of having her heart broken.
Her pain assembled in her scars,
Of which it was a token.
She finds it hard to trust,
She pushes everyone away.
Fearing words, 3 simple words,
She'd never be able to say.
She hides in her room,
Behind a locked door.
There she finds her refuge,
Sobbing and heaving on the floor.
I know of a girl,
I know all her secrets.
The act she upholds,
Her struggle to keep it.
