Remember When...?

"Remember when..."
A little girl said,
"...people awaited a new day,
yet now, tomorrow, they dread?"

"Remember when..."
She continued on,
"...children came to their parents,
yet now, to school, they bring a gun?"

"Remember when..."
The girl stared into her parents' eyes,
"...adults would help when a kid was hurt,
instead of leaving them to cry?"

"Remember when..."
She wanted to know,
"...children didn't have to be afraid of a stranger,
if they decided to say hello?"

"Remember when..."
She needed to understand,
"...families were united together,
most importantly, they were planned?"

This little girl,
No more than four,
Saw the world for what it is,
And wished it to be like before.
