My Purple Mermaid

My purple mermaid stands for hopes and for dreams.
My purple mermaid is just what it seems.
My purple mermaid hides behind this sheath.
It watches my heart beat from way down beneath.
The skin on my bones, the tongue behind my teeth.
The words on my lips that I cannot speak.
The tears in my eyes that I cannot leak.
All of which make my purple mermaid so weak.
