Good Bye

I remember
The look in those brown, sad eyes
The day I had to leave
Although I didn’t want to.

All that longing,
Hope and love
That poured down my face
Wanting the time to stop
For us to remain together,
But it seem to speed up
My departure

I promised
I would come back someday,
You said you would stay
There until that happened

It was so beautiful,
That feeling, that face,
And you
With promises that held
Our hearts together
Breaking the distance
Between us.

However,
I couldn’t stay longer;
I had to see you
Disappear in the horizon of my memory
Like something that had been
But couldn’t be anymore.

And for the years to come
I packed my promises
And a few unsaid words,
Saving them
For the day I would
See you again
