Twelve years ago we bought a pup, A little Pembroke Corgi,
His kennel name was "Xanadu",But we all called him "Dusty".
This little dog we came to love,
As a member of our family,
Us three kids he would protect,
And tricks he'd do so grandly.
As a watch dog he was number one,
Our house he would defend.
From strangers who may venture in,
Until they were his friend.
My mum of course to him she'd talk,
When washing day to day,
He would not leave her very side,
At her feet he'd quietly lay.
January fifth two thousand and four,
Saw Dusty very ill,
The vet he fought so hard for him,
But a cure of course was nil.
The decision was so hard to make,
To put our little mate down,
We'll bury him in our back yard,
A headstone for his crown.
So long old mate, we all love you,
As I write my eyes are misty,
No other dog could take your place,
For in our hearts, it's only "Dusty"
