True to Yourself
Smile for the cameras,
Laugh for your friends.
Submissive for your sister,
That way until the very end.
Should you have to hide
The way you always do?
Taught at an early age,
But it simply can't be true.
It's a lie to fake how you are,
It's a lie to pretend all the time.
Covering tears with smiles,
The only glimpse of truth with a rhyme.
Hiding's wearing you thin,
You're tearing at the seams.
Bags under eyes, frown on lips.
Waiting only to be redeemed.
True self coming through again,
Some may smile or some may frown.
As long as you're true to yourself,
You won't be flipping upside down.

we all struggle with finding a way to come through as ourselves to the people we love most. its odd that the people who should know us best can not know us at all.
great job.
