Remember when we were all very young?
How boys would come near us and we would scream and run.
The only bad thing we could ever give each other were cooties.
Every night we would call daddy to save us from the monsters underneath our bed.
And mommy always seemed to know how to make our pain flee.
We took pride in all the scars and boo- boo’s on our bodies.
The meanest name boys and girls would insult us with was “meany!”
How all the girls would sit in a circle and play clap games for what seemed like hours.
We wore whatever we wanted and still were accepted.
Back when we would say “shut up” and then giggle because we thought it was so bad.
Now it’s all so incredibly different.
Girls now run to the boys instead of away from them.
Instead of cooties we get worse things; we receive STD’s and broken hearts.
For most of us calling our dad “daddy” and our mom “mommy” is simply social suicide.
Our solutions to ease pain are a band aid, ice cream and movies, boyfriends and best friends.
If your skin is not flawless people very often will judge you.
Over time we have all learned much uglier things to say than “meany” and “shut up”.
We don’t even remember half of our old clap games that we had been obsessed with so long ago.
You either wear the “in clothes” or you are judged and called welfare or weird.
Sometimes I think we all would just like to go back and be young again.
And it’s not that the world was literally any easier then, we just chose not to let it be hard.
We were young and crazy and we never really cared, but at least we had fun.
