How Deep is This Night
How deep is this night
that draws me in with its mysterious splendor
Those dancing shadows and shifting dark figures
The enticing blackness
How it calls to me
With whispers of ghastly tales
And stories only a dark mind could conjure
How it heightens each sensation
Each touch softer
Each sound clearer
Each smell stronger
How this night stirs imagination
Always guessing what lurks within the shadows
Guessing what lies around the next turn
How beautiful this night is
Softening edges
Dimly lighting curves with the moon's pale light
The stars shining light years away
All the world in an eerie calm
How short this night is
Soon to perish at the break of dawn
The garish light of day filling every crevasse
Drowning out the darkness
But only until the sun sets once more
