Easy as a glance sideways
Our fights were as easy as a glance forwards
Taking as much energy as was needed to type the words
Our silences were as easy as a glance backwards
Searching for the friend who had our backs
But now.
Your hugs are as easy as a glance to the right.
A show of distracted affection
One pair of eyes locking on to the other
The other’s vision focused on something besides the eyes viewing them.
Your remembrance of who I am
It’s as easy as a glance to the left
Lefty loosey
Always a step ahead into the past
Shining your hollow light on my smooth white heart
The switch flicked unknowingly by me
I’m just being who I tend to be
Your gaze’s appraising me
Raising me back to that short pedestal
And my neck isn’t ready for that stretch
A glance sideways would be so much more easy.
