This was wrong all along
Can you hear my heartbeat
as I press my palms against your chest?
it's as steady as a metronome,
racing as rapidly as your thoughts
I don't want to surrender to my opiate eyelids
lest it break our gaze
When you look in my eyes that way
every breath comes shuddering back
you nudge my hair aside with your hot fingers
every inhalation had an exhalation in those days
we fought those forces of ourselves and each other
I couldn't bear to watch you screaming
you couldn't bear to hear my squirming
and your eyes remain unfalteringly, abashedly clear
now I know the only rapids here are found in the rivulets of my heartbeat
your thoughts are as steady as the love she has for you
I am content to watch the dust settle around my seemingly broken figure

I can't for the life of me figure out what it is about tho. It seems very straightforward but it isn't. Good job tho.
