Better Track

You came back and reminded me of the pain,
Reminded of that cold night crying in the rain.
But you also brought me pride,
You left because of something inside.
It wasn't me, it wasn't us,
It wasn't my lack of trust.
You left because you couldn't stand being so far away,
Couldn't stand not being able to see me everyday.
Now I see that I'm glad you left,
Proud of feeling so bereft.
It gave me the chance to grow,
Allowed me a chance to show,
That I could be stronger,
That I would live longer.
It hurt at first, I'll admit,
But, I'm truly better for it.
And now we can be friends again,
You're back to share what's within.
I don't know how I lived without a friend like you,
Don't know how I was ever able to make it through.
Now, you're here to listen to me morn,
Here to gather the pieces when my heart is torn.
We both agree that we're only friends,
I'm so glad we finally made amends.
We both agree we don't want it back,
Both our lives are on a different, better track.
