Under the Mask
We all wear masks.
We hide ourselves.
We lie to those we love.
We lie to ourselves.
We go about our lives as someone else.
We pretend that nothing's wrong.
We say things we don't feel.
We stifle the truth.
We crush the inner self.
We succumb to the dark.
We hide from the light.
We walk alone through this world.
We never truly know another.
We blindly obey the mind.
We ignore the heart.
We deprive ourselves.
We torture ourselves.
We kill ourselves.
We break our hearts by not opening them to others.
We believe nothing.
We see nothing.
We feel nothing.
We all wear masks.
We daren't lift them...
...even for a second.
We all wear masks.
I long for the strength to lift mine, as I wish you the strength to lift yours...
...if only for a second.
