To My Parents

I understand your hurt,
And I understand your pain,
But listen to my words for once;
Let me make it plain.

I once felt no fear,
This split I did not dread;
Yet after the first few days
I longed to join the dead.

I know what you are thinking,
I know what you will say,
So I’m telling you, SHUT UP NOW;
It’s your turn to obey.

I can see you don’t trust me,
So how can you possibly object
To my own distrust of you
By showing me no respect?

This nightmare is leaking from daylight
Into my own dark dreams.
Do you smile in the night
When you hear my screams?

I can’t do anything,
Won’t do anything,
Will do NOTHING.

Do you see the pain you cause me?
The emotional distress?
Why can’t you people just leave me alone
And clean up your own mess?

But I suppose that’s far too much to ask;
You must finish what you started.
I must be broken and bled dry
Before our paths have parted.
