Them
I hear it in the whispers
They carry on the wind
Beckoning me to join them
Forever inviting in
They offer me the light
And safety from the dark
I can taste it on my lips
I know they’ve left their mark
I try to drown it out
Ignore their gentle call
‘Cause I know where they lie
Behind the cemetery wall
I feel the effort drain me
And I know they can tell
Trapped inside myself
They seem to know me well
I scream out in frustration
They answer with a laugh
They know that they’ve won
I’ve already changed my path
I welcome them towards me
Embracing all the pain
They offer me the warmth
And shelter from the rain
The darkness overwhelms me
And brings to life my fears
So they did not solve it
Just prevent my aging years
So now I lie with them
And beckon others in
Promising the light
But providing deadly sin
