Dancing with Death

Death is knocking at my door
Time is up, but I need more
He says; “My dear, you danced with me
You cannot change your destiny”

The cuts I made were only small
Just enough to ignore his call
The gentle song he used to play
I kept at bay until today

“My dear, you are wasting time
You cannot solve this little rhyme
You might as well come with me
You cannot stop what’s meant to be”

So I watch each red drop fall
To the Earth, consuming all
Glistening pools of tainted red
Proving that I was more than dead

Condemned am I to watch the show
Of what I did and didn’t know
The horror that I left behind
And the peace I’m yet to find
