THE UNFORGETABLE MOMENT OF MY LIFE

We ran on empty for an hour,
Through lonely cities’ streets and the wasted lands,
No foods, no gas, and no water.
Now, stopping on an isolated highway to rest,
My daddy's gentle hands
Reassured me wit a pat on my shoulder,
As he wanted to make me feel relaxed
While mother searched in her purse for money to buy supplies,
Knowing she had brought some, in case.

Empty inside, without breakfast that morning,
I was ravenous like a wolf;
My tummy grunted,
Mouth, salivating at the burger sign, ahead.
I pointed at the sign to dad and mom,
Yearning to devour the ad from ‘Bugger King;’
My words sounded depressing and twisted,
But she ignored me, still searching for the greens
While he was ploughing his eyes into the gray clouds
To watch them peel the curtain off.

I wandered a short, straight line, to and fro our mini van,
Waiting for mom and dad to get back to the seats so we could drive on.
My head spun, lightly, as hypoglycemia set in,
Ready to tear my sensory a and motor neurons.
I began to rush my parents, feeling the anger within—
A contagious disease--not at them,
But at myself, because my body was so hungry and weak,
But there were no foods to please it.
