Happily Never After

I look into your eyes,
A stranger’s staring back.
Wondering where my heart is?
It’s been there on the rack.

Let’s go back to the beginning,
To when we first met.
Our lives would become entangled,
Though we didn’t know it yet.

I broke through your defenses,
You finally gave me your heart.
Love flowed through my body,
This was just the start.

You looked right at me,
Stared right into my soul.
You took my broken pieces,
And finally made me whole.

Being together for so long,
Life together has no end.
Not just my soul mate,
You became my best friend.

But now something’s happened,
Our relationship has changed.
You’ve become so distant,
Am I the one deranged?

Tell me what to do,
We can’t go on like this.
But if I let you go,
It’s you I’ll surely miss.

We fight and bicker constantly,
It’s starting to wear me down.
I just feel so hopeless,
So sick of wearing this frown.

This isn’t a game we play,
A competition to be won.
