Fickle

I sit here not knowing what to write,
Or how to put down words without spite.
I plow along even so,
Wishing these feelings to go.
Out of my heart and into this ink,
Hoping under loneliness not to sink.
This girl, that girl, that girl and this,
Feelings they tell me of seem amiss.
"I love you still" is what they say,
"I want you back, not now, and not today."
These phrases pick me up for a short while,
Then, lack of action freezes my smile.
I fall off their map for a time,
Sitting, waiting here for a sign.
Alas, what is the next thing I hear,
A simple "I know you love me dear,
But I've found another who occupies,
Another who brings my longing sighs.
Your love, your dreams don't matter,
He makes my heart pitter patter.
So goodbye and good riddance,
I hope I need not offer penance."
So left alone again I ponder,
Why they pick me up and pull me asunder.
