I gently reached out and touched her face,
And there no breath did pass her lips.
She rose that day and faced the sun,
And left behind her only love.
I watched her as she spoke his name,
And called to others in the dawn.
To those who lingered there too long,
Who walked with her to life's sweet edge.
To hold her hand so close and dear,
To be with her to the very end.
To catch her tears and hold her close,
To honor her and set her free.
To dance the dance of life's sweet drink,
And dance the dance of her last good bye,
To end the dance of her own sweet life.
Her fears no longer touch her soul,
To make her cry and stand alone.
To give her back her hearts desire,
To keep her safe and pave the way.
She never was bound by love's desire,
Or things that others may desire,
Her life too damaged and too torn.
Gone she is this bleakest day,
And forever now we shall mourn.
