Change of Heart

You first said yes to me when I asked you to prom,
Then you told me no a few weeks later,
Not to say you're that kind of person,
But you messed with my heart like a player.

Because another guy MIGHT want to ask you too,
You didn't want to hurt his feelings,
No it wasn't fair at least not to me,
I asked you first to show you that I'm willing.

I asked you out another day to breakfast,
Of which your answer was yes,
But come that morning as I appoached your place,
You chose to meet and eat with the rest.

Still reluctant in giving up the chase,
No that was not for me,
For I have waited too long for this,
Almost for eternity.

I asked you if you wanted in,
You asked me to give you time to think,
I gave you space and air to breathe,
As I lay my heart on the brink.

Maybe it was the wrong timing,
I should've held back and waited a little longer,
But would it have made much difference,
Some of the things I begin to ponder.

It seemed like a good idea to me,
It seemed like a good idea to others,
I was supported by my friends,
And cousins and brothers.

You had a discussion with your trusted mates,
I took the long lonely train ride home.
Tired from the journey, I made it back to my place
When I received an sms on my phone.

You told me you'd give it a try,
As you said that the feeling was mutual,
I was in sheer heaven by those words,
Therefore making what happened even more brutal.

For 3 days I couldn't see you,
Because we both had an exam,
But I kept in touch with you,
Calling you whenever I can.

Then that day finally came,
Where I can finally get to see you,
You acted kinda strange to me,
But I thought it was because it's still new.

What happened next was you broke my heart in two,
You sat there beside me saying that you arent ready,
Your head was in a mess from the stress,
That you couldnt have a steady.

I told you I'd take it slow
And be there for you at anytime,
I'll help you with anything I can,
Just to make sure that you'll be fine.

Later that night you called me,
And told me we needed to talk,
So I got out of the house with my coat,
And went around the neighbourhood for a walk.

You told me you tried to like me,
But the feeling just wasnt there,
It's because you didnt feel the same way,
And not because you didnt care.

But I have to ask you this,
If it wasnt there before you said yes,
Then why did you give me that much confidence?
And how can you have tried in 3 days or less?

You said you wanted things back to how they were,
Back when we were just close friends,
But the way I feel for you is too strong,
It's not that easy to pretend.

I gave it a shot anyways,
I tried to go back to the way things were,
I kept my feelings deep inside me,
Eventhough it really hurts.

But still you act all strange towards me,
And try to show that you still care,
But I can tell that there are some times,
When you wish I wasn't there.

For you it's just a change of mind,
From the gracious yes to the cold hearted no,
For me it was a change of heart,
And a definite change in my world.
