-Nice Guys Finish Last
There I stand
With two hands out
To help her from her fall
and to hold open the door to my all,
my heart
my love
my life.
She sees not my hands,
she heeds not my call.
She stands in a haste,
striking my all.
I fall to my knees,
and collapse on the ground.
All breath escapes me,
I hear not a sound.
but see I still can,
as I watch her next fall,
I reach out to catch her,
but I am too slow.
Her fall lands un-broken
quite unlike my soul.
Now both on the ground,
Now she can see me,
lying broken in the dirt.
However, she knows not why I am there.
So she calmly stands herself
then helps me to my feet.
Brushes me off
asks how I am
like a fool in love,
I say, "O, everything is fine"
I look into her eyes
This is finally my chance
I take two steps towards her;
Breathe in to speak.
Just then she turns
and runs towards he from which she fell.
I stare dumbfounded at my words, hanging in the air.
Like fireflies in a jar,
that only want to escape and spread their light.
So I watch, paralyzed,
at her, I watch her fall
Maybe I shouldn't be a nice guy
I wish she had let me die.
