...to mourn.

You swore to me you’d never leave,
that together we’d reach eternity.
But now I see you lied to me,
and we were never meant to be.

I can’t stop these tears that frame my face,
I feel as if I’m stuck in place,
and all I want is another taste
of you in my arms.

I just wanted you to love me and
you said that you would,
that you could, that you’d never stop.
Then you held my heart and let it drop.

Sitting here at the top of the hill
I look down below me and
feel my heart still.

It’s your birthday today
and I swore I’d stay away,
but I couldn’t think of a better way
to say goodbye to you.

The words are muffled by the rain
but I can hear him softly say,
“Dearly beloved, we gather here today…
To mourn.”
