[color=darkblue:0813cadc8a][b:0813cadc8a]Langston Hughes....He was a great poet indeed. He was born in 1902 and died in the year of 1967. Hughes argued, "No great poet has ever been afraid of being himself."This says something,to me it's telling me be who you are and don't be ashamed of it.Don't be someone to fit in,let others like you for you. :3 Langston Hughes is a very famous poet and what he writes about is true. This is why he is one of my fovorite poets!HE ROCKS!

P.S. He is also awsome because he uses slang in his poems! :3[/b:0813cadc8a][/color:0813cadc8a]

[b:5fcfa6ea8d]Well, son, I'll tell you:
Life for me ain't been no crystal stair.
It's had tacks in it,
And splinters,
And boards torn up,
And places with no carpet on the floor—
Bare.
But all the time
I'se been a-climbin' on,
And reachin' landin's,
And turnin' corners,
And sometimes goin' in the dark
Where there ain't been no light.
So, boy, don't you turn back.
Don't you set down on the steps.
'Cause you finds it's kinder hard.
Don't you fall now—
For I'se still goin', honey,
I'se still climbin',
And life for me ain't been no crystal stair.[/b:5fcfa6ea8d]

This poem has been a big help for me and made me keep going because life ain't no crystal stair! Cool

I definately agree with you. He was one of the best, if not the best, poet of the 20th century. His writings are what helped bring about the poetry renaissance in the early 1900s.

His words bring out not only the truth behind what it was like being a black man in the early century, but hope. His words gave hope to many around the country, if not world to keep trying. His words alone made us realize that life is not of what we have, but what we make out of it.
