Romance is an important part of every relationship. Whether you have been married for 12 years or have been dating for only a matter of weeks, romance is what makes relationships last. It doesn't matter if it is a special day or simply Tuesday, doing something a little bit special can help bring the fire.

Like most people, one of my favorite days of the year is my birthday. Of course, the older I get and the less friends I have greatly reduce my likeness of the day. Even if your partner isn't like me (and especially if they are), you should do something special for them this year. Since birthdays come only once a year, there's no harm in doing something a little extra special. You'll gain extra credit for it! Believe me.

1. Cook a special dinner
   Only for you two. Cook something extra special, put some candles on the table, dim the lights, shut off your cell phones, and have a great meal together at home. It's passionate, romantic, and great tasting.
2. Have a special night out.
   Take her (or him) to a nice restaurant, cafe, or even the beach. Tell them how much they mean to you and have the time of your lives. It helps to go either somewhere they've been talking about or going to their favorite spot together.
3. Breakfast in bed.
   Yes, this sounds a bit corny and something that is usually only done in movies, but he'll (she'll) love you for it. Just wake up early and cook their favorite breakfast.
4. Get her (him) that present she (he) always wanted.
   No, no, I'm not talking about that vacuum or kitchen utensil to help do chores better. I'm talking about something they *really* want. This could mean reading between the lines, straight out asking them, or simply remembering something they mentioned long ago. Frankly speaking, you should do your homework and find that special gift.

The best gift has nothing to do with money, so it doesn't matter how much you spend. The best gift is something you put effort into and means something special to the person who receives it. If it is romantic, that's all the better. And to make a special gift, it takes love, time, and will. Your partner won't forget and when it's your birthday, maybe they'll do the same for you.
